The list of dhcp clients and MAC addresses will show where the computer you are testing is located. Expand it and you can see AEgen5 upstairs has a link of 58Mbps to the TCgen4 downstairs. Load airport utility 5.6 into a computer and find the link speed. If you are not prepared to try EOP then you just have to keep working on wireless. If that is not possible use EOP adapters. it could well be double hopping via the AE. You need to discover both the link speed and AE to TC and the computer speed of the link to the TC and whether it is linking to the TC at all. You will do much better with v5.6 so you can see what is happening and why it is slow. ? The airport utility v6 is utterly useless. So I don't think that my signal is the problem.īut what is the link speed between them. The only way to get high speed out of the TC is ethernet.Ĭan you plug the computer that you want backed up into it directly. You really need to setup a computer running the 5.6 version utility. The problem is link speed is not revealed anywhere in the new Airport utility. if it fails I have some other suggestions. you will have no choice but to give it a try. if the TC doesn't work it is simply too far away and the signal is too poor.īackup you can use ethernet and it will be far better. it should pick up the TC as a new wireless device and simply set it up for you automagically. take it to the living room and plug it into the wall. Where did the express come from? (Just a typo for extreme?)įactory reset the TC. are you too far away to pick up good signal. When you run the airport utility it should simply pick extend wireless. So you are trying to extend wireless to the TC. i assumed you meant plugged in by ethernet. How do I set up my Airport Extreme and Time Capsule for the fastest possible internet speed and back up speed? I am thinking that when I set up my AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule using AirPort Utility I must have set it up incorrectly or something. I have backed up to this Time Capsule in the past and it never took this long. My problem is that my connection seems to be really slow! My 1TB Time Capsule back up is only half way complete and it has been 3 days! My computer has been backing up all day and night for almost 72 hours and its still not even 75% complete. I am able to wirelessly connect to the internet using the AirPort Extreme as my router and I can also do wireless back ups to my Time Capsule. What is the best way to set up my 6th Generation AirPort Extreme (A1521) to my cable modem as a wireless router and then connect my 3rd Generation Time Capsule (A1355) to my AirPort Extreme as a wireless extender? I live in a small 1 story house and I currently have the Airport Extreme connected to my cable modem in the living room and the Time Capsule plugged into the wall in my bedroom.
